Freezer not freezing

Control boards are often misdiagnosed—before replacing the control board, first check more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the main control board.

Freezer not working, clicking sound

If a freezer is not working, but you're hearing a clicking sound, you should confirm that power if getting to the compressor. If no power is reaching the compressor, it's likely the control board is defective. However, control boards are often misdiagnosed—before replacing the control board, first check more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the control board.

Freezer runs all the time

If the freezer runs all the time a relay on the control board may be shorted, sending constant power to the compressor. Control boards are often misdiagnosed—before replacing the control board, first check more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, replace the main control board.

Freezer defrost drain frozen

A frozen freezer defrost drain can be caused by the freezer temperature being too cold. If the temperature is significantly below 0° Fahrenheit and the freezer's thermistor shows appropriate resistance changes when tested with a multimeter, it's possible the control board is faulty and sending continuous voltage to the compressor. You can inspect the board for signs of burning or a shorted component and replace if necessary.

Freezer buttons not working

The control board sends power to the freezer components. If the control board has power to it but the display is dead or the buttons are not responding, the control is likey bad and will need to be replaced.

Freezer not Defrosting/Ice Buildup

The control board has relays that send power to the freezer components. If the control board is defective, it may stop sending voltage to the defrost system. Control boards are frequently misdiagnosed—before replacing the control, first test all of the defrost system components. If none of the defrost system components are defective, consider replacing the control board.

Freezer not running

Freezer is producing a burning smell

The freezer control board is usually located on the rear panel of the appliance. If the board shorts out or is damaged by a power surge, it can produce a electric burning smell. Inspect the control board for any burn marks and replace if necessary.
