Range vent hood fan or blower not working

Keep air moving with this genuine OEM fan motor, part number S99080180, designed for select Broan Range Vent Hood or Bath Fans.

Usually, when the blower motor hums but does not turn, it indicates that the motor shaft bearings are worn out. Some older, larger motors have oil spouts. If your motor has oil spouts, try adding oil to the motor bearings to get the fan to turn freely. If lubricating the motor bearings does not solve the problem, or if the motor can’t be lubricated, replace the fan motor.

Range vent hood motor is loud or noisy

The fan motor bearings might be worn out. To determine if the motor bearings are worn out, try wiggling the motor shaft back and forth. The motor shaft should not move at all. If the motor shaft moves even by a slight amount, the motor bearings are worn out. Some older, larger motors have oil spouts. If your motor has oil spouts, try adding oil to the motor bearings to get the fan to turn freely. If lubricating the motor bearings does not solve the problem, or if the motor can’t be lubricated, replace the exhaust fan motor.

Bathroom fan not working

The fan motor might be burned out. To determine if the fan motor is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the fan motor does not have continuity, replace it.

Bath fan motor is loud or noisy 

The exhaust fan motor bearings might be worn out. To determine if the bearings are worn out, wiggle the motor shaft back and forth. The motor shaft should not move at all. If the motor shaft moves even slightly, this indicates that the bearings are defective. The bearings are not repairable—if the bearings are worn out, you must replace the motor.

Bath fan doesn't vent to the outside 

Check to see if the fan blade is spinning when the bath fan is turned on. If the fan blade does not spin, make sure that the fan motor is getting power. If the fan motor is not getting power, test the switch for continuity. If the fan motor is getting power, but the fan won’t turn, the fan motor is likely defective.

Range vent hood turns off by itself

If the fan motor has power to it but keeps shutting off, the windings or bearings may be bad. Try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, or the motor keeps shutting off when it has power to it, the fan motor will need to be replaced.
