Dryer won't start

The high-limit thermostat monitors the dryer temperature and shuts off the burner if the dryer overheats. If the high-limit thermostat is malfunctioning, it may shut off the burner even if the dryer is not overheating. However, this is rarely the case. Before replacing the high limit thermostat check all the more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, test the thermostat by using a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the thermostat does not have continuity, replace it.

Dryer stopped spinning

The high-limit thermostat monitors the dryer temperature and shuts off the element or dryer when overheating is detected. If the high-limit thermostat is malfunctioning, it may shut off the dryer even if it's not overheating. You can test the thermostat for continuity by using a multimeter. If the thermostat does not have continuity, replace it.

Dryer overheating

The high limit thermostat monitors the air temperature in the dryer's blower housing, heating element, or heat duct and is intended to shut off the voltage to the heating circuit if the air temperature gets too hot. If the thermostat is defective, it may allow the heat to stay on too long, causing the dryer to get overheated. However, this is rarely the case. Before replacing the high limit thermostat check all the more commonly defective parts. If you have determined that all of the other components are working properly, test the thermostat by using a multimeter to test it for electrical continuity. If the thermostat does not have continuity, replace it.

Gas Dryer Takes Too Long to Dry — Dryer Troubleshooting

This free troubleshooting video shows quick maintenance tips including cleaning the lint filter, lint screen housing, venting and inside the cabinet for keeping your dryer working safely and efficiently. Vent Interior of dryer cabinet The lint produced by clothes tumbling in a dryer is normally trapped by the lint filter. However, some lint invariably escapes and accumulates on the inside of the dryer cabinet. At least once a year, check the inside of the cabinet, and clean it if necessary. Do this more frequently if the dryer is used heavily. Lint filter Area under lint filter You can also clean the chute, duct, or area that the lint filter fits into. If necessary, use a vacuum cleaner to reach into the duct and clean out any lint. Note... If the lint build-up is severe, it's important to disassemble the dryer and clean out the lint more thoroughly. If you're unable to find the information you need on our website, we suggest that you use a search online to find a reliable online repair forum. It's likely that your question has already been answered there. We also recommend contacting your product's manufacturer or calling a local repair technician.
