Washer has a burning smell

The idler pulley keeps tension on the belt to keep the belt tight. If the pulley bearing is not moving freely the belt will slip on the pulley and cause a burning  rubber smell.

A worn or damaged idler pulley may not be able to properly engage the drive belt which can prevent the tub from spinning fast enough to drain the water. Inspect the idler pulley for any damage or wear and replace if necessary.
