Dishwasher not cleaning

This lower wash arm, part number W10859935, helps ensure full cleaning in select Kenmore or Kenmore Elite Dishwashers.

A dishwasher's lower wash arm will spray water upwards as it rotates to clean the dishware during the wash and rinse cycles. If the wash arm is clogged with debris or damaged, the water won't be able to jet upwards and the dishware won't be cleaned effectively.

Dishwasher leaking

If the wash arm is cracked, it can force water to spray directly toward the lower part of the dishwasher door. The water can then be forced under the door and onto the floor, causing a leak. Remove the wash arm and inspect it for cracks. If the wash arm is cracked, replace it. Do not attempt to seal the crack with glue—the glue will break down in the dishwasher. If the wash arm is intact, make sure the screws in the wash arm support are tight. If the wash arm support is loose, water can spray out between the wash arm support and the lower pump housing, causing waves. These waves can cause water to leak out of the bottom of the door.

Dishwasher making noise

A cracked wash arm could potentially result in a hissing or whistling noise as the water flows through the arm during a wash cycle. Inspect the arm for any cracks or damage and replace if required.

Dishwasher spray arms not spinning

The lower wash arm circulates water to the dishes in the lower rack. If water can’t flow properly through the lower wash arm, the dishes in the lower rack won’t be cleaned properly. Over time, food particles get trapped in the tiny holes in the wash arm. If your dishes are coming out dirty, the wash arm might be clogged. To unclog the upper wash arm, remove the wash arm and dislodge any debris from the holes. If the wash arm is extremely clogged, replace it.

Dishwasher Dispenser Not Working — Dishwasher Troubleshooting

This free troubleshooting video shows quick maintenance tips including cleaning the spray arm, cleaning the filter, and repairing the rack tines for keeping your dishwasher working safely and efficiently. Interior cleaning & deodorizing You don't need to clean the interior of your dishwasher if you use it regularly. If it goes un-used for a week or more and begins to mold or smell bad, you can clean it using Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner and Deodorizer, available in our parts section. Exterior cleaning Just clean the exterior of your dishwasher with a damp sponge and a little dish detergent. Rust removal Try RoVer Rust Remover to remove rust stains from the inside of your dishwasher. You can find this product in our parts section. Dish rack repairs If the plastic coating wears off of the tines of the dish racks in your dishwasher, they may corrode and rust. We have repair kits available for those tines in Light Blue, Gray, and White. These repair kits can be found in our parts section. Filter cleaning On many dishwashers, there's a filter near the bottom, or under the lower spray arm that needs to be cleaned regularly. If you have this sort of filter, check your owner's manual to find out how to remove and clean it. If it has holes in it, replace it to protect the pump and motor seals from particles that may be in the dishwasher. Spray arm cleaning Over time, the small holes in the spray arm(s) of your dishwasher may become clogged with bits of paper, toothpicks, glass, etc. Your dishwasher will do a better job of cleaning your dishes if you take a moment to clean out these small holes, from time to time. If you're unable to find the information you need on our website, we suggest that you use a search online to find a reliable online repair forum. It's likely that your question has already been answered there. We also recommend contacting your product's manufacturer or calling a local repair technician.
