Craftsman
Tools needed: 13mm socket, large flat-head screwdriver, hammer, small flat-head screwdriver, T-15 Torx bit screwdriver, pliers
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you install the oil pump kit components in your chainsaw first make sure the engine has cooled and that the on-off switch is in the “off” position.
2
Now use the provided wrench or a 13mm socket to help loosen and unthread the nuts securing the clutch cover.
3
Confirm that the chain brake is disengaged and pull off the cover.
4
Next, lift off the front chain guard and remove the cutting chain and chain bar.
5
Now unthread the knob securing the air filter cover and pull the cover off.
6
Now remove the wire and boot from the spark plug.
7
Use the provided wrench to help loosen the spark plug then unthread it.
8
Confirm that the piston is in the “down” position then insert a cord into the cylinder to prevent the piston from moving.
9
Next, use a large flat-head screwdriver and strike it with a hammer to rotate the clutch clockwise to unthread it from the crankshaft.
10
Pull off the clutch drum and sprocket assembly and the remaining washer.
11
Use a small flat-head screwdriver to bend the retaining tab to release the rear chain guard.
12
Use a t-15 torx bit screwdriver to remove the screws securing the oil pump and cover.
13
Pull the pump and cover off then detach the oil block intake hose – be prepared for some oil to spill.
14
Next, use pliers to remove the hose coupler then pull out the oil pick-up tube.
15
Remove the gear spring.
16
You’re now ready to install the new oil pump kit components.
17
Slide the new gear spring onto the crankshaft.
18
You can use a large flat-head screwdriver and hammer to help push it into place.
19
Now insert the new oil pick-up tube into the casing.
20
Press the new hose coupler into place.
21
Insert the seal into the new pump cover.
22
Slide the oil block onto the pump and attach the intake hose to the coupler.
23
Position the pump cover and align the oil block in the groove on the casing.
24
Rethread the screws to secure the cover.
25
Slide the rear chain guard onto the chain bar mounting posts.
26
Slide the rear washer onto the crankshaft then replace the clutch drum and sprocket assembly along with the inner drum washer.
27
Rethread the clutch counter-clockwise onto the crankshaft then tighten.
28
Remove the cord from the cylinder.
29
Rethread the spark plug.
30
Be careful not to strip the threads by over tightening.
31
Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug.
32
Realign the air filter cover and rethread the knob to secure.
33
Realign the chain bar on the mounting posts.
34
Align the chain on the sprocket and on the chain bar.
35
Make sure the teeth on the chain are facing towards the front end of the chain bar on the top and away from the front end on the bottom.
36
With the chain in place, reposition the front chain guard.
37
To replace the clutch cover, the chain tensioner pin will need to be inserted into the hole in the chain bar.
38
You will probably need to rotate the tension adjustment screw counter-clockwise to properly align the tensioner pin.
39
With the cover in place, hand-tighten the nuts.
40
Now lift the bar and rotate the adjustment screw clockwise until there is no slack in the chain.
41
Fully tighten the nuts and confirm that the chain is taut.
42
With the repair completed turn the on-off switch to the “on” position and your chainsaw should be ready for use.
