Tools needed: 1/2 inch socket, 9/16 inch socket, 5/8 inch socket
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the right side pivot plate on your riding mower Make sure the ignition switch is in the “off” position and the key has been removed.
2
Use a half-inch wrench and a 9/16th inch socket to unthread the mounting nuts securing the short steering link to the steering spindle and the pivot plate on the right side of the mower.
3
With the nuts and washers removed, pull the link free.
4
Next, unthread the mounting nut to release the right side steering link from the plate.
5
Use a 5/8th inch socket to unthread the pivot bolt.
6
With the bolt unthreaded, you can detach the old pivot plate.
7
Remove the bolt from the plate – this may require some effort.
8
You’re now ready to install the new pivot plate.
9
Slide a washer onto the bolt then insert the bolt into the new plate.
10
Now slide the second washer on and apply some thread-lock to the threads of the bolt.
11
Align the new plate on the axle then thread and tighten the bolt to secure.
12
Insert the steering link mounting bolt through the bottom of the new plate.
13
Slide on the washer then thread and tighten the mounting nut.
14
Reinstall the short steering link by inserting the mounting bolts through the pivot plate and steering spindle – make sure the link bends to the front.
15
Align the washers on the bolts then thread and tighten the mounting nuts to secure the link.
16
To keep the pivot assembly moving freely, inject some grease into the fitting.
