All of the information for this small deck pulley replacement video is applicable to the following brands:
Craftsman, Ariens, Husqvarna, Weedeater, Poulan, Dixon
Tools needed: 9/16 inch socket
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the small deck pulley on your riding mower make sure the ignition switch is in the “off” position and the key has been removed.
2
Confirm that the mower deck is at its lowest position and that the clutch actuator lever is in the “off” position.
3
Now remove the retaining pins securing the support arms and detach the arms to release the mower deck from the frame.
4
Next, release the deck belt from the engine pulley and the belt guides.
5
Detach the clutch cable from the retainer.
6
You can now slide the deck out from under the frame.
7
Move the support arm and belt out of the way then use a 9/16th inch socket to loosen and unthread the mounting nut securing the deck pulley – support the bolt from the bottom to keep it from rotating when removing the nut.
8
With the nut unthreaded, remove the old pulley.
9
Before you install the new small deck pulley first confirm that the mounting bolt and belt guide are in position.
10
Slide the new pulley onto the bolt then thread and tighten the nut to secure.
11
Align the belt on the new pulley then slide the mower deck back under the frame.
12
Secure the clutch cable in the retainer.
13
Align the belt on the engine pulley and the belt guides.
14
Reposition the support arms and secure them using the washers where applicable and the retaining pins.
