DescriptionThis video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the spark plug on a Kohler small engine (which is commonly found in riding lawn mowers, riding tractors, zero-turn radius mowers, and commercial walk-behind mowers). The most common reasons for replacing the spark plug are when the engine won’t start, is hard to start, stops after a few seconds, or runs poorly.
All of the information for this spark plug replacement video is applicable to the following brands:
Kohler, Exmark
Tools needed: socket/spark plug wrench
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you begin the replacement, make sure the engine has cooled.
2
Depending on your engine model, the spark plug may be in different locations and you may have more than one. We recommend replacing all spark plugs at the same time.
3
Your first step is to remove the wire and boot from each plug.
4
Now use a socket or a spark plug wrench to loosen and remove the old spark plug.
5
Install the new spark plug by threading it into the cylinder head and secure with the socket or wrench.
6
Be careful not to over-tighten or damage the plug itself.
7
Once secured, attach the wire and boot to each plug.
