Tools & Assistance Needed
4
You will need a 9/16th inch socket and a 3/8th inch socket for this procedure, and you may need assistance.
6
Before you begin, confirm the engine has cooled.
8
Be sure there is little or no fuel in the tank.
9
For safety, detach the ignition coil wire from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
11
Tip the lawn mower back and use a weight to hold the handle assembly down.
12
Since it is recommended to replace both drive shaft bearings at the same time, use the 9/16th inch socket to unthread the nuts securing both front wheels.
14
Slide off the two drive gears, along with the wheel guards.
15
Use the 3/8th inch socket to unthread the seven lower screws securing the front transmission cover.
16
Unthread the two upper screws securing the cover.
17
Pull the wheel adjustment lever outward so you can fully detach the cover.
18
Remove the two old drive shaft bearings.
19
To install the new drive shaft bearings, slide them onto the axle and fully insert them into the axle plates.
20
Make sure the bearings are positioned in the notches in the transmission support.
21
Hold the axle assembly in place as you reposition the front transmission cover by first inserting the tab under the belt slot in the deck.
22
Make sure the drive cable is positioned in the notch in the cover.
23
Pull the wheel adjustment lever outward to properly align the front of the cover.
24
Replace the nine screws to secure the cover, starting with the lower middle screw.
25
Reposition the wheel guards followed by the two drive gears.
26
Align the two front wheels, and thread the nuts to secure them.
27
Remove the weight and return the lawn mower to its upright position.
28
Reattach the ignition coil wire to the spark plug, and refill the fuel tank if necessary.
29
Congrats! Your lawn mower is ready for use.
