Step-By-Step Instructions1
To replace the rear dryer drum bearing support in your Frigidaire laundry center, you will need a number two square drive bit, a Phillips head screwdriver, pliers, and a 5/16 inch nut driver.
2
Before you begin the procedure, unplug the power cord.
3
Have an assistant help you to move the appliance away from the wall or out of the closet.
4
You may need to detach the venting from the dryer to fully access the rear of the laundry center.
5
You may also need to shut off the incoming water and remove the hot and cold water supply lines as well.
6
If necessary, remove the drain hose from the standpipe or laundry tub.
7
Use the number two square drive bit or the Phillips head screwdriver to unthread the two screws securing the dryer access panel.
9
Move the idler arm to the left so you can detach the belt from the motor pulley and idler pulley.
10
Next, unthread the four screws securing the rear of the top panel.
11
This will make it easier to remove the drum.
12
Moving to the front of the appliance, unthread the two screws securing the dryer's lower access panel.
13
Pull the panel up to remove.
14
Next, unthread the two mounting screws securing the control panel.
15
Pull the panel down to detach.
16
Release the wires from the retaining clip and move the panel out of the way.
17
Disconnect the dryer door switch wire connector.
18
Next, unthread the upper left screw securing the inner access panel.
19
This will make it easier to remove the front panel and lint filter duct assembly.
20
Now use the Phillips head screwdriver to unthread the two lower screws securing the front panel.
21
Next, unthread the four upper screws along the top of the cabinet.
22
With all of the screws unthreaded, you can fully remove the front panel and lint filter duct assembly.
23
Now unthread the screw to remove the drum stop.
24
You can now lift the rear of the drum up to detach the bearing from the support, then carefully remove the drum from the cabinet.
25
Returning to the rear of the appliance, unthread the three mounting screws to release the bearing grounding clip cover.
26
Have an assistant hold the grounding clip in place with pliers as you use the 5/16 inch nut driver to unthread the two mounting screws securing the bearing support and bracket.
27
With the screws unthreaded, you can remove the old support.
28
Be aware the grounding ball behind the support may become dislodged.
29
To prepare the new drum bearing support for installation, align it on the bracket and insert the mounting screws.
30
Apply some grease to the rear indent and set the grounding ball in place.
31
Align the assembly on the rear panel.
32
Have the assistant reposition the grounding clip and hold it in place as you fully thread the screws to secure the components.
33
Reposition the grounding clip cover and re-thread the screws.
34
Make sure there is adequate grease in the bearing support.
35
Now, with the belt looped around the drum with its grooved side facing inward, reinstall the drum, making sure the rear bearing is inserted into the bearing support.
36
Reposition the drum stop and secure it with the screw.
37
Reinstall the front panel by positioning the lower portion of the lint filter duct behind the inner access panel as you align the front panel mounting pins with the holes in the cabinet frame.
38
Re-thread the four upper screws.
39
It will be easier to replace the two middle screws first.
40
Re-thread the two lower screws.
41
Now rethread the upper left screw to fully secure the inner access panel.
42
Reconnect the door switch wire connector.
43
Secure the control panel wires in the retaining clip, then reposition the panel.
44
Replace the mounting screws.
45
Realign the access panel and secure it with the screws.
46
Returning to the rear of the appliance, confirm the top panel and frame are aligned, then re-thread the four screws to secure.
47
Loop the drum belt onto the idler and motor pulleys in a zigzag formation.
48
Rotate the drum to help fully align the belt.
49
Reinstall the access panel by inserting the tabs into the slots first, then re-thread the screws.
50
If necessary, reinsert the drain hose into the standpipe or hook it onto the edge of the tub.
51
Reattach the hot and cold water supply lines to the inlet valve ports.
52
Reattach the venting if required and move the appliance back against the wall or into the closet.
53
Turn the water supply back on if necessary.
54
Plug the power cord back in, and your laundry center should be ready for use.
