Step-By-Step Instructions1
To replace the condenser fan shroud in this frigidaire air conditioner…
2
… you will need a #2 phillips-head screwdriver, a 10mm socket, a putty knife, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, zip-ties, a thread locking solution, and foam strip insulation.
3
Before you begin, unplug the unit’s power cord.
4
To perform this procedure, you will need to fully uninstall the unit from the wall sleeve or window and set it on a sturdy surface.
5
Now pull the air filter out.
6
Use the #2 phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the two screws securing the grille assembly.
7
With the screws unthreaded, use the putty knife to help pry the grille assembly off.
8
Release the control panel wiring from the retainers to provide enough slack to set the grille aside.
9
Next, unthread the six screws to release the rear grille if attached.
10
Unthread the lower screws securing the left-and-right-side air intake screens.
11
Detach the screens from the top to remove.
12
Now unthread the eight screws securing the unit’s cabinet.
13
With the screws unthreaded, lift the cabinet off.
14
Cut the foam strip insulation covering the control box cover.
15
Now unthread the three screws securing the cover.
17
Now unthread the upper and lower screws securing the control box to the frame and base.
18
With the screws unthreaded, shift the box out of the way.
19
Cut the foam strip insulation on the right side of the air duct…
20
… and peel back the tape at the top.
21
Pull the frame back so you can fully remove the top and middle air duct sections.
22
Use the 10mm socket to unthread the blower wheel mounting nut.
23
Slide off the lock washer and the flat washer.
24
Next, unthread the two screws securing the fan motor shroud to the base.
25
You can now tip the fan shroud and condenser back so you can fully remove the blower wheel.
26
Next, unthread the six remaining screws securing the fan shroud.
27
Use the putty knife to help detach the foam strip insulation from the top of the condenser coils.
28
Separate the shroud from the coils and move the coils out of the way.
29
Using the 10mm socket, rotate the condenser fan blade mounting nut clockwise to unthread.
30
Slide off the lock washer and flat washer and you can remove the fan blade.
31
Now unthread the screw to release the yellow motor grounding wire from the control box.
32
Use the wire cutters to cut the two zip-ties bundling the wires together.
33
Slide out the fan motor wire connecter lock so you can disconnect the wire connecter from the control board.
34
You should release the potentially stored electrical charge in the capacitor to avoid injury…
35
… by placing the needle-nose pliers across each set of terminals – avoid touching the metal portion of the tool when doing this.
36
Pull back the insulators then use the needle-nose pliers to depress the locking tabs to disconnect the red and brown wires from the capacitor.
