Step-By-Step Instructions1
To replace the left door hinge on this kitchenaid dishwasher, you will need a 5/16th inch nut driver, a quarter-inch nut driver, a phillips-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, vice-grip pliers, a t-15 torx bit, and a t-20 torx bit.
2
Before you begin the procedure, turn off the power to the dishwasher.
3
Use the 5/16th inch nut driver to unthread the two screws securing the lower access panel and toe panel to the frame.
4
With the screws unthreaded, you can set the panels aside.
5
Pull out the remaining insulation.
6
Use the quarter-inch nut driver to unthread the screw securing the junction box cover.
8
Using the phillips-head screwdriver, unthread the screws to release the black and white power wires from the right side of the terminal block.
9
Unthread the screw to release the grounding wire as well.
10
Now depress the retaining tab and slide the junction box to the left to detach it from the support bar.
11
Use the needle-nose pliers to help unthread the strain relief nut.
12
Pull the power line through the junction box.
13
Hook the junction box back on the support bar to keep it out of the way.
14
Next, open the dishwasher door and unthread the two screws securing the dishwasher mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop.
15
To move the dishwasher, you may need to thread the legs further into the base to lower the appliance.
16
Now gently pull the dishwasher part way out of the cabinet.
17
Open the dishwasher door, and use the t-15 torx bit to unthread the eight side screws and the top right screw holding the inner and outer door panels together.
18
Unthread the top right door latch screw last.
19
With the screws unthreaded, you can lift the outer door panel up to detach.
20
Disconnect the user interface wire connecter and detach the wire retainer so you can set the outer door panel aside.
21
Use the needle-nose pliers to help detach the wire cross brace from the hinges.
22
Partially open the door, and use the vice-grip pliers to secure the left hinge spring rod to prevent the hinge from closing.
23
Use the t-20 torx bit to unthread the two screws securing the hinge to the inner door panel.
24
Using the quarter-inch nut driver, unthread the two upper screws securing the hinge to the frame.
25
Use the 5/16th inch nut driver to unthread the two lower screws securing the hinge.
26
Pull the cabinet seal off of the frame and you can fully remove the old hinge.
27
To install the new door hinge, open the hinge as you have an assistant use the vice-grip pliers to secure the spring rod to prevent the hinge from closing.
28
Now align the hinge on the frame and thread the upper and lower screws to secure.
29
Reseat the cabinet seal on the frame.
30
Open the door and rethread the two screws to secure the hinge to the inner door panel.
31
With the screws secured, remove the vice-grip pliers.
32
Replace the wire cross brace by aligning the brace and insulation behind the wiring, then insert the right end of the brace into the bottom hole in the right hinge and the left end into the bottom hole in the left hinge.
33
Reinstall the outer door panel by first connecting the user interface wire connecter and securing the wire retainer.
34
Make sure the console seal is in place, then slide the side edges of the outer panel behind the retaining brackets, then lift the panel up to join it with the inner door panel.
35
Rethread the screws to secure.
36
The top right door latch screw should be threaded first.
37
That screw and the two upper side screws are longer than the six remaining side screws.
38
With all the screws secured, gently slide the dishwasher back into the cabinet.
39
Extend the front leveling legs if necessary.
40
Rethread the screws to secure the mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop.
41
Detach the junction box from the support bar.
42
Feed the power line wires through the rear of the box.
43
Thread the strain relief nut to secure.
44
Realign the junction box on the support bar and slide right to snap it into position on the retaining tab.
45
Realign the black and white power wires on the appropriate terminals on the right side of the terminal block and thread the screws to secure.
46
Thread the screw to secure the grounding wire to the junction box.
47
Reposition the junction box cover and replace the screw.
48
Realign the insulation.
49
Now realign the toe panel and insulation, then reposition the access panel, and thread the two screws to secure.
50
Turn the power supply back on, and the dishwasher should be ready for use.
