Coleman Central air conditioner leaking at furnace or air handler
If your Coleman central air conditioner is leaking water at the furnace or air handler, the most likely cause is an evaporator coil that is not tilted toward the drain outlet. When the coil is level or positioned incorrectly, condensation cannot flow into the condensate drain pan and may overflow. If the water is leaking from the pan without overflowing, inspect the evaporator drip tray first, since a cracked tray can allow an air conditioner condensate leak. A cracked evaporator drain pan can cause the same problem and may leave water under the furnace from the AC. A clogged drain tube or drain trap is less common, but it can back up condensation and overflow the pan. Turn off power to the unit before clearing a drain blockage, and do not work inside the air handler or on 240V wiring unless you are qualified. When the air conditioner is running, condensation forms on the evaporator coil and drips into a drain pan. From there the water is directed through a pipe with a trap to a floor drain or condensate pump. If the drain tube or trap gets clogged, the water will back up and overflow the drain pan. If water is leaking from the evaporator pan, it is likely the drain tube or trap is clogged and will need to be cleared to allow the water to flow normally. Be sure to shut off the power to the unit before attempting to remove the clog.
