An oven meat thermometer is not working, the problem is usually the meat probe itself. The probe's resistance changes as its temperature changes, and an open circuit on a multimeter indicates a bad probe that needs replacement. If the probe is good, the oven control board may not be receiving or processing its signal, especially if the oven shows an oven probe error or the temp probe is not working even though it is connected correctly. A defective door switch can also stop the meat thermometer from operating because some ovens require the door to be closed before the control board monitors the probe. Test the switch for electrical continuity when actuated and replace it if it fails. Next, inspect the probe jack, also called the receptacle, for corrosion, damage, or poor contact. On some models, the user control and display board or a separate oven control board may be at fault. Always disconnect power before testing or replacing parts. 01 - Universal Range/Stove/Oven Meat Probe
The meat probe resistance changes with the temperature of the probe. If the probe shows an open circuit when tested with a multimeter, the probe is bad and will need to be replaced.

When the probe is plugged into the jack, the control board monitors the food temperature from the probe. If the temperature probe and jack are good but the control board is not responding, the control board is likely bad.
Some oven meat thermometers will not function properly unless the oven door is closed which activates a door switch to alert the control board that the door is closed. If the door switch is defective, the oven meat thermometer may not work. To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for electrical continuity when actuated. If the door switch does test appropriately for continuity, replace it.
The meat probe jack or receptacle needs to be clean and making good contact with the meat probe. If the receptacle appears corroded or damaged, the component should be replaced.
05 - Universal Range/Stove/Oven Oven Control Board
When the probe is plugged into the jack, the oven control board monitors the food temperature from the probe. If the temperature probe and jack are good but the control board is not responding, the control board is likely bad.
