When your Maytag oven probe is not working, the meat thermometer may show an error, fail to register temperature, or remain blank. Start with the meat probe, the most likely cause. Its resistance should change as the probe temperature changes, and an open circuit during a multimeter test means the probe is defective and needs replacement. If the probe is good, inspect the probe jack or receptacle for corrosion, debris, or damaged contacts that prevent a reliable connection. The control board is another common cause when the oven probe and receptacle test correctly but the oven does not respond to the temperature signal. Some Maytag ovens also require the door to be fully closed, so a faulty door switch can prevent the oven thermometer from operating. Test the switch for continuity when actuated and replace it if it fails. The oven control board may also be at fault on certain models. Enter your Maytag oven's model number to find the exact replacement meat probe, receptacle, door switch, control board, or oven control board for your appliance.
01 - Maytag Range/Stove/Oven Meat Probe
The meat probe resistance changes with the temperature of the probe. If the probe shows an open circuit when tested with a multimeter, the probe is bad and will need to be replaced.

When the probe is plugged into the jack, the control board monitors the food temperature from the probe. If the temperature probe and jack are good but the control board is not responding, the control board is likely bad.
Some oven meat thermometers will not function properly unless the oven door is closed which activates a door switch to alert the control board that the door is closed. If the door switch is defective, the oven meat thermometer may not work. To determine if the switch is defective, use a multimeter to test it for electrical continuity when actuated. If the door switch does test appropriately for continuity, replace it.
The meat probe jack or receptacle needs to be clean and making good contact with the meat probe. If the receptacle appears corroded or damaged, the component should be replaced.
When the probe is plugged into the jack, the oven control board monitors the food temperature from the probe. If the temperature probe and jack are good but the control board is not responding, the control board is likely bad.
