Frigidaire Range vent hood turning on by itself

Is your Frigidaire range vent hood turning on by itself? The most likely cause is the vent hood thermostat. Some models automatically turn on the blower when heat inside the hood reaches a set temperature, then shut it off after the hood cools. Check your owner's manual or wiring diagram to confirm whether your Frigidaire range vent hood has this feature. If the blower or lights turn on intermittently when the hood is not hot, the control board may have burnt relay contacts or an internal short. A worn touchpad can also close the circuit without a button press. If buttons respond incorrectly or activate by themselves, the user control and display board may need replacement. The main control board can cause the same random operation, while a shorted control module is less common and should be tested last. Disconnect power before testing electrical components, and enter your model number to find the exact replacement thermostat, control board, touchpad, user control and display board, or control module for your Frigidaire range vent hood.

01 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood Thermostat

If the temperature in the hood gets hot there may be a thermostat that will automatically turn on the vent blower until the temperature cools down. Check the owner's manual and /or the wiring diagram to see if your vent hood has this feature.

02 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood Control Board

The control board has relays that send power to the fan and lights. If the contacts in the relays become burnt, or the board is shorting out, they may make contact intermittently. If the fan or lights are turning off and on the control board may be bad.
Common

03 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood Touchpad

When the touchpad buttons are pressed a circuit is closed sending a signal to the control board. If the button is worn it can cause the circuit to close intermittently, turning on the hood.

04 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood User Control and Display Board

The buttons on the user control and display board may be only intermittently activating. To determine if the control and display board is defective, try pressing each of the buttons on the control panel. If some of the buttons are not responding correctly, replace the user control and display board.
Common

05 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood Main Control Board

The main control board has relays that send power to the fan and lights. If the contacts in the relays become burnt, or the board is shorting out, they may make contact intermittently. If the fan or lights are turning off and on, the main control board may be bad.
Common

06 - Frigidaire Range Vent Hood Control Module

The control module receives inputs from the control panel switches to turn the lights and blower on and off. If the control module shorts out, the blower or lights may go on and off randomly. Because this is not a common problem make sure the control panel and switches are tested before replacing the control module.
