Is your GE range vent hood turning on by itself? The thermostat is the most likely cause. Some GE vent hoods have a temperature-sensing thermostat that automatically starts the blower when heat builds up, then shuts it off after the hood cools. Check your owner's manual or wiring diagram to confirm whether this feature is normal. If the blower or lights turn on and off randomly, the control board may have burnt relay contacts or an internal short. A worn touchpad can also close a circuit intermittently and send an unwanted start signal. Next, test the buttons on the control panel. If they respond inconsistently, the user control and display board may need replacement. The main control board can cause the same intermittent operation, while a shorted control module is less common and should be considered only after testing the control panel, touchpad, and boards. Disconnect power before testing or replacing parts. Enter your GE range vent hood model number to find the exact thermostat, control board, touchpad, user control and display board, or control module for your appliance.
01 - GE Range Vent Hood Thermostat
If the temperature in the hood gets hot there may be a thermostat that will automatically turn on the vent blower until the temperature cools down. Check the owner's manual and /or the wiring diagram to see if your vent hood has this feature.

The control board has relays that send power to the fan and lights. If the contacts in the relays become burnt, or the board is shorting out, they may make contact intermittently. If the fan or lights are turning off and on the control board may be bad.
When the touchpad buttons are pressed a circuit is closed sending a signal to the control board. If the button is worn it can cause the circuit to close intermittently, turning on the hood.
04 - GE Range Vent Hood User Control and Display Board
The buttons on the user control and display board may be only intermittently activating. To determine if the control and display board is defective, try pressing each of the buttons on the control panel. If some of the buttons are not responding correctly, replace the user control and display board.
The main control board has relays that send power to the fan and lights. If the contacts in the relays become burnt, or the board is shorting out, they may make contact intermittently. If the fan or lights are turning off and on, the main control board may be bad.
The control module receives inputs from the control panel switches to turn the lights and blower on and off. If the control module shorts out, the blower or lights may go on and off randomly. Because this is not a common problem make sure the control panel and switches are tested before replacing the control module.
