Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the clutch on your chainsaw first make sure the engine has cooled the on-off switch is in the “off” position and the chain brake is disengaged.
2
Now push the bar tensioner knob in and rotate it counter-clockwise to remove the chain cover.
3
Push the bar back to loosen the cutting chain and remove the bar and chain.
4
Next, use a small flathead screwdriver to remove the e-clip securing the clutch sprocket.
5
Pull the clutch washer and the sprocket off.
6
Now use a t-25 torx bit screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the top cover.
7
Pull the cover off – this may require some effort.
8
Remove the wire and boot from the spark plug.
9
Use a socket or a spark plug wrench to help unthread the spark plug.
10
Confirm that the piston is in the “down” position then insert a cord into the cylinder to prevent the piston from moving.
11
Using a clutch tool, rotate the clutch clockwise to loosen then unthread the old clutch.
12
Before you install the new clutch confirm that the washer is in place on the engine shaft.
13
Now thread the new clutch counter-clockwise onto the engine shaft and use the clutch tool to tighten.
14
Remove the cord from the cylinder.
15
Rethread the spark plug.
16
Be careful not to over tighten the plug.
17
Reattach the wire and boot.
19
Rethread and tighten the screws to secure.
20
Slide the clutch sprocket back onto the engine shaft.
21
Reposition the washer with the beveled edge facing outward and secure the assembly with the e-clip.
22
Realign the cutting chain on the chain bar.
23
Make sure the teeth on the chain are facing towards the front end of the chain bar on the top and away from the front end on the bottom.
24
Loop the chain onto the clutch sprocket as you align the chain bar on the mounting bolts.
25
Reposition the chain cover by inserting the chain tensioner pin into the bar – be aware you may need to adjust the position of the pin to fully align the cover.
26
Secure the cover loosely by rotating the bar tensioner knob clockwise.
27
Now lift the bar and rotate the chain adjustment dial clockwise until there is no slack in the chain.
28
Once the chain is taut, tighten the tension on the bar.
29
With the repair completed turn the on-off switch to the “on” position and your chainsaw should be ready for use.
