Weed Eater Edger Won't Start? Carburetor Replacement 530071634

03:11
This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the carburetor on Weed Eater and Craftsman edgers. The most common reason for replacing the carburetor is if it is clogged, causing the edger to not start, stop after a few seconds, or run poorly, but cleaning the carburetor does not fix the problem.

All of the information in this carburetor replacement video is applicable to the following brands: Weed Eater, Craftsman

Tools used: T25 Torx bit screwdriver, small flat-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers

Step By Step Instructions

1
Before you replace the carburetor on your edger first make sure the engine has cooled.
2
Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
3
We recommend performing this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.
4
Use a t-25 torx bit screwdriver to remove the screw securing the throttle cable.
5
Note the location of the cable on the throttle plate then detach the cable.
6
Note the orientation of the fuel lines attached to the carburetor then detach them.
7
Next, unthread the mounting screws securing the carburetor.
8
Pull off the air box and remove the old carburetor.
9
Prepare the new carburetor for installation by transferring the intake gasket from the old carburetor to the new one.
10
Confirm that the adaptor gasket is in place.
11
Now realign the air box, position the new carburetor between the box and the adaptor then insert the upper mounting screw and thread it loosely.
12
Insert and thread the lower mounting screw and tighten both screws to secure.
13
Attach the fuel lines to the appropriate ports on the new carburetor.
14
Attach the throttle cable to the appropriate hole in the throttle plate.
15
Insert the cable into the slot in the air box and replace the screw to secure.
16
With the repair completed reattach the spark plug wire and boot and your edger should be ready for use.
