04:18
This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the auger drive cable (or control cable) on Cub Cadet snowblowers. The most common reason for replacing the cable is when it is broken, causing the snowblower to not properly pick up snow.

Tools used: 3/8” socket

Step By Step Instructions

1
Before you replace the auger drive cable on your snowblower first make sure the engine has cooled.
2
Next, remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
3
Use a 3/8th inch socket to remove the mounting bolts securing the belt cover and pull the cover off.
4
Now remove the bolt securing the front roller bracket.
5
Now use a 7/16th inch socket to remove the bolt securing the roller.
6
Pull the bolt and roller off and set the bracket aside.
7
Next, loosen the lower bolt securing the rear roller adjustment bracket and remove the upper bolt.
8
Detach the bracket then unthread the roller mounting bolt and remove the bolt and roller.
9
If still intact, detach the spring end of the old auger drive cable from the idler pulley bracket and the z-end from the handle lever.
10
You’re now ready to install the new auger drive cable.
11
Attach the z-end of the new cable to the handle lever.
12
Slide the rear cable roller onto the bolt, thread the bolt into the adjustment bracket and tighten, making sure the new cable is aligned on the roller first.
13
Align the adjustment bracket on the frame.
14
Replace the upper bolt and tighten both bolts to secure.
15
Now hook the spring end of the cable on the idler pulley bracket.
16
Slide the front roller onto the bolt, thread the bolt into the front bracket and tighten, making sure the cable is aligned on the roller first.
17
Reposition the front bracket on the frame and replace the mounting bolt to secure.
18
Be aware you can adjust the tension on the new cable by repositioning the rear adjustment bracket.
19
With the new cable installed replace the belt cover and secure it with the mounting bolts.
20
Reattach the spark plug wire and boot and your snowblower should be ready for use.
