Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace a muffler flange bolt on your engine first make sure the engine and muffler have cooled.
2
Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
3
If the old flange bolt is still intact, use a flat-head screwdriver and hammer to bend the locking tab out of the way.
4
Now use a 7/16th inch socket to loosen and unthread the bolt.
5
Prepare the new muffler flange bolt for installation by applying some anti-seize to the threads.
6
Now insert the bolt through the muffler assembly and thread it into the cylinder.
7
Torque the bolt to seven-and-a-half foot pounds.
8
Bend the locking tab in to prevent the bolt from unthreading.
9
With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your engine should be ready for use.
