Make sure the engine has cooled.

Remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.

Be sure to perform this procedure with little or no fuel in the tank.

"If still intact, unthread the old cap and pull the retainer free of the tank."

Prepare the new fuel cap for installation by transferring the retainer from the old cap to the new one.

"Insert the retainer into the tank first, then thread on the new cap."

"Reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug, then refill the fuel tank if necessary."
