Step-By-Step Instructions1
To replace the recoil starter on your Honda engine, you will need a 10 millimeter socket.
2
Before you begin the procedure, make sure the engine has cooled.
3
For safety, detach the ignition coil wire from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
4
Loosen the starter rope retainer wing nut so you can release the rope from the retainer and allow it to rewind onto the starter pulley.
5
Now use the 10 millimeter socket to unthread the three mounting nuts securing the recoil starter.
6
With the nuts removed, you can lift the old starter off.
7
To install the new recoil starter, align it on the mounting posts so the starter rope and handle faces the right rear corner of the engine cover.
8
Thread and tighten the mounting nuts.
9
With the new starter secured, depress the bale arm and gently extend the starter rope.
10
Position the starter rope handle in the retainer, then tighten the wing nut.
11
Reattach the ignition coil wire to the spark plug, and your engine should be ready for use.
