2
Frigidaire Microwave Oven Magnetron Replacement
3
Tools needed: T-15 tamper-proof Torx bit, Phillips-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers
5
Because of the high voltage and high current used by microwave ovens, be aware that repairing this appliance poses a substantial risk for injury or death if precautions are not taken.
6
You should always unplug the microwave before you attempt any disassembly.
7
Since high voltage capacitors used in microwaves may retain a charge even after the microwave has been unplugged, we recommend that only experienced professionals access and replace internal components.
8
Unthread the six rear screws securing the cover using the T-15 tamper-proof Torx bit.
9
Unthread the screw on the right side of the cover as well.
11
Pull the rear sides of the cover out then lift the cover up and pull back to fully remove.
13
You should release the potentially stored electrical charge in the capacitor to avoid injury.
14
You can do this by placing needle-nose pliers with an insulated handle across each set of terminals.
16
Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the screw to detach the air outlet guide and the two screws to release the air inlet guide.
17
Next, unthread the screw to release the hight-limit thermostat mounting plate.
18
Detach the magnetron power wires from the terminals.
19
Now unthread the three mounting screws securing the magnetron.
20
Set the old component aside.
21
To install the new magnetron, insert the antenna into the hole in the wave guide as you position the magnetron on the bracket.
22
Thread and tighten the three mounting screws to secure.
23
Connect the wire connecter to the terminals on the magnetron.
24
Reposition the high-limit thermostat mounting plate and secure it with the screw.
25
Reinstall the air outlet guide by inserting the tab into the hole in the magnetron plate, then thread the screw to secure.
26
Realign the air inlet guide and thread the screws to secure.
27
Reinstall the microwave oven cover by first aligning the top edge then the sides.
28
Thread and tighten the seven screws to secure.
29
Plug the power cord back in and the microwave oven should be ready for use.
