Oven light not turning off

Won’t your oven light turn off? The light switch is the most likely cause. A shorted light switch can keep sending power to the bulb even when the switch is in the off position. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter and replace it if it shows continuity when off. If pressing the control panel button does not turn the oven light off, the touchpad and control panel may not be registering the command. Check the other buttons: if some respond and others do not, replace the touchpad and control panel or the touchpad, depending on your range, stove, or oven design. A shorted oven control board can also cause the oven light to stay on. Less commonly, a door hinge that prevents the door from closing tightly may fail to actuate the light switch. On some models, a shorted door switch causes the same problem. These parts can fix an oven light not turning off, an oven light that stays on, or an oven light not turning off after the door closes. Enter your model number to find the exact replacement part for your range, stove, or oven.

01 - Range/Stove/Oven Light Switch

The light switch sends power to the light. If the light switch is shorted the light will stay on. You can test the light switch for continuity with a multimeter. If the light switch shows continuity even in the off position, the switch is bad and will need to be replaced.

02 - Range/Stove/Oven Touchpad and Control Panel

If the light is not turning off when the button is pressed, the button may not be activating. To determine if the touchpad and control panel are defective, try pressing each of the buttons on the control panel. If some of the buttons respond correctly while others don’t, replace the touchpad and control panel.
Common

03 - Range/Stove/Oven Touchpad

If the light is not turning off when the button is pressed, the button may not be activating. To determine if the touchpad is defective, try pressing each of the buttons on the control panel. If some of the buttons respond correctly while others don’t, replace the touchpad.
Common

04 - Range/Stove/Oven Control Board

The oven light often gets its power from the control board. If the control board is shorted the light can stay on. If the light switch is in the off position, but the light stays on, the control board has likely shorted and will need to be replaced.
Less Common

05 - Range/Stove/Oven Door Hinge

If the door isn't closing properly the light switch may not be actuated, keeping the light on. Check to see that the door is closing tight. If the door opens past 90 degrees, the door hinges are likely bent and will need to be replaced.
Less Common

06 - Range/Stove/Oven Door Switch

On some models, the door switch controls when the oven light is turned on and off. If the door switch has shorted the light may stay on. You can test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. If the switch shows continuity even in the off position, the switch has shorted and will need to be replaced.
Uncommon But Possible
