Primer bulb. The primer bulb draws fuel into the carburetor to make the engine easier to start.

Air filter. If the air filter is clogged or dirty, the engine may not start or may run rough.

Carriage Bolt: 5/16-18 x .750"

Fuel tank grommet. Secures the fuel supply, return and vent lines to the fuel tank.

Drum, starter

MTD flange lock nut, 5/16-18.

NGK Spark Plug (BPM8Y). The spark plug ignites the fuel and air mixture in the engine's cylinder to power the engine. If the spark plug is has fouled (if the tip of the spark plug is burnt or damaged), the engine may not start or may run rough.

Spring, rewind

Fuel filter. If the fuel filter is clogged, it will restrict the flow of fuel to the carburetor. As a result, the engine may not start.

Echo fuel pipe/vent tube

Zama carburetor rebuild/repair kit. If the carburetor is clogged, the engine won't get enough fuel. As a result, the engine may not start or may run rough. It is often possible to repair the carburetor if it is clogged.

Echo two-cycle engine fuel pipe.

Fuel tank vent (also called a check valve). The fuel tank vent allows air to re-enter the fuel tank. If the vent is clogged, the engine may stall.

Wire, throttle

Fuel line. The fuel line allows fuel to travel from the fuel tank to the carburetor and from the primer bulb to the fuel system. If the fuel line is leaking, replace it.
Mantis tillers are lightweight, maneuverable cultivators built for garden beds and small plots. When your Mantis tiller won't start, stalls under load, or the tines won't engage, we have the OEM parts that get you digging again. Whether your model runs a Honda or Subaru engine, Repair Clinic stocks carburetors, spark plugs, belts, and tine assemblies that match your exact serial number.
Find your Mantis tiller model number on the frame or in your owner's manual, then browse our parts below. Same-day shipping on most orders means you'll be back in the garden faster than you'd think.
Ethanol in gasoline corrodes carburetor floats and needle valves — that's the #1 Mantis tiller no-start issue. Drain old fuel, clean or replace the carburetor, install a fresh spark plug, and your Mantis will likely start right up. If you've done that and it still won't turn over, the recoil starter or ignition module may be the culprit. Use your model number to find the exact carburetor kit or starter assembly for your engine (Honda or Subaru).
Look on the frame near the handle, or on the engine block itself. Mantis tillers often have both a tiller model number and an engine model number (e.g., Honda GX or Subaru EX). You'll need both to order the right carburetor or spark plug. If you can't find the label, take a photo of the tiller and engine and our parts specialists can help identify your exact model.
A rebuild kit includes gaskets, O-rings, float, and needle — enough to restore a carburetor that's otherwise sound. Full replacement is the right call if the casting is cracked or the carburetor body is damaged. For most Mantis tillers with ethanol damage, a rebuild kit is the faster and cheaper fix. Pair it with a new fuel line and primer bulb for best results.
Tine sets are largely interchangeable within Mantis's front-tine lineup, but always verify the tine count, shaft diameter, and spacing using your model number. OEM tine sets ensure correct depth adjustment and durability. Bent or worn tines are easy to replace and will transform your tiller's performance in hard soil.

On Mantis tillers, look for the model number label on the frame near the handle, on the engine housing, or near the recoil starter. Check the owner's manual too, especially if the label is worn or difficult to read. Be sure to use the tiller's model number, not only the engine model or serial number. Enter that number in the model number search to pull up the parts matched to your unit. It filters the full Mantis tiller parts catalog, including engine, tine, belt, starter, and control parts, so you can compare parts for the entire machine instead of guessing from appearance. With the correct model selected, you can order with confidence knowing the fit is right.
