DescriptionThis video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the rewind spring on a Husqvarna leaf blower. The most common reasons for replacing the spring are if the rope will not rewind or if the spring itself is broken.
All of the information in this rewind spring replacement video is applicable to following brands: Husqvarna
Tools used: T-27 Torx bit, flat head screwdriver
Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace the rewind spring in your leaf blower make sure the engine has cooled.
2
Next, you should remove the wire and boot from the spark plug to prevent the engine from accidentally starting.
3
Use a t-27 torx bit or a flat-head screwdriver to unthread the screws to release the recoil starter.
4
Secure the starter rope then untie the knot at the end and remove the handle.
5
Now hold the recoil starter pulley and slowly release the tension on the spring if still intact.
6
Remove the starter assembly screw and washer and unthread the starter cam.
7
Gently remove the recoil starter pulley and the coiled spring underneath. Be aware the spring can cause injury so use eye protection and use a towel to help contain the spring. You’re now ready to install the new rewind spring.
8
Align the hook in the spring with the slot in the starter housing and hold the spring firmly in place as you remove the wire retainer. This may be difficult.
9
Making sure the rope is secured in the notch align the pulley and rotate it clockwise until the pulley sets into place then rotate counter-clockwise until the spring catches onto the pulley tab.
10
Replace the starter cam then hold the pulley as you secure the screw and washer.
11
Now rotate the pulley counter-clockwise approximately three-or-four times to put tension on the spring.
12
Align the notch in the pulley with the hole in the starter housing and feed the rope through the housing.
13
Insert the end of the rope through the handle and tie a knot to secure.
14
Make sure the knot is seated in the handle and confirm that the recoil assembly rotates freely.
15
Reposition the recoil starter on the engine then replace the screws to secure.
16
With the repair completed reattach the wire and boot to the spark plug and your leaf blower should be ready for use.
