Step-By-Step Instructions1
Before you replace a surface igniter in your gas range…
2
…be sure to unplug the power cord or shut off the power supply.
3
Shut off the gas supply as well.
5
Pull off the five control knobs.
6
Open the upper oven door and use a phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the three lower screws securing the manifold panel.
7
Next, unthread the two upper screws securing the panel.
8
With the screws unthreaded, you can lift off the panel.
9
Use an adjustable wrench to unthread the nut to release the gas supply tube from the manifold.
10
Use the phillips-head screwdriver or a quarter-inch nut driver to unthread the front screws securing the cooktop.
11
Lift the cooktop assembly up and support it.
12
Remove the appropriate burner cap.
13
If replacing the center surface igniter, you will need to unthread the screws to remove the burner cover as well.
14
Now use a t-20 torx bit to unthread the two screws securing the burner base.
15
Lift the base straight up to remove.
16
Use a half-inch wrench to unthread the nut to release the gas supply tube from the burner valve.
17
Depress the tab to release the wire or the igniter wire extension if you’re replacing the center surface igniter.
18
Note the location of the igniter then use a small phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the mounting screw to detach the old component.
19
Install the new surface igniter…
20
…by positioning it in the orifice holder…
21
…then thread the mounting screw to hold it in place.
22
Now connect the wire to the new igniter.
23
Position the orifice holder then hand-tighten the nut to secure the gas supply tube to the valve.
24
Align the surface igniter with the hole in the burner base…
25
…then thread and tighten the screws to secure.
26
If applicable, replace and secure the burner cover.
27
Replace the burner cap.
28
Now wrench-tighten the gas supply tube nut – be careful not to damage the tube by overtightening.
29
Remove the support and lower the cooktop assembly.
30
Thread and tighten the two front screws.
31
Insert the gas supply tube into the manifold and thread the nut – again, avoid overtightening the nut.
32
Realign the manifold panel on the support brackets.
33
Thread and tighten the upper and lower screws to secure.
34
Replace the control knobs on the valve stems.
36
Turn the gas supply back on…
37
…plug the power cord back in or restore the power supply…
38
…and the gas range should be ready for use.
